Eternal Security, Conditional & Unconditional: Calvinism vs. Arminianism?

by Theodore Wright.

The eternal security of salvation for believers in Jesus Christ is understood simply…

    Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, – Acts 16:31b

Eternal security of the believer’s salvation may be comprehended more fully when understood in both its conditional and unconditional aspects…

the earthly, temporal perspective
the heavenly, eternal perspective
Colossians 1:19-23
Ephesians 1:3-7
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

The question is NOT, “Can you lose your salvation or not?”. The question IS, “Do you have faith in Jesus Christ?”.

Eternal salvation is reserved for those who possess the abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

The gift of eternal life is freely received by all who choose to trust in Jesus Christ and are already the predestined chosen of God.

The unpardonable sin is to refuse this free gift.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God;
that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. – 1 John 5:13
