Scriptural Encouragement

When wealth becomes a curse

When does wealth becomes a curse?

When it weans us from God.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
-Psalm 62:10 (KJV)

When it inspires falsehood.

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
-Acts 5:3 (KJV)

When it prompts profiteering.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
-Proverbs 22:16 (KJV)

When not used to glorify God.

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
– Matthew 25:18-19 (KJV)

When coveted.

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
– Luke 12:15 (KJV)

When it incites pride.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
– Proverbs 18:11-12 (KJV)

When it causes betrayal of Christ.

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
– Matthew 26:14-15 (KJV)
