Scriptural Encouragement

Holiness from the presence of God

Exodus 3:1-5 (NKJV)
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
2 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”
4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is, holy ground.”

What made the ground that Moses stood on holy?   Could not Moses have replied,

“You mean to say that this ground is better than that ground over there?”

What was it about the ground?

This reminds me of a scene from the Bugs Bunny cartoon “Rabbit Hood”.

Why was the ground holy before the burning bush?   It was because the pure presence of God was there!

The Lord was not putting off Moses by saying “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is, holy ground.” Rather, the Lord was having worldliness put off and having Moses to relax in His Own Holy Presence. The Lord was inviting Moses to come closer to Him! Moses was to kick his sandals off and be reverently comfortable before Him. The Lord did this appearing before Moses as a burning bush. Still, the fire of the Lord did not consume the bush to destroy it. What power the Lord has under control!

Holiness is not achieved by following a legalistic bunch of rules or by attempts to observe the Law of Moses. For who can keep it in its entirety besides Jesus Christ Himself? We become holy by being in God’s presence thereby reflecting the holiness of the Lord present with us. How do we enter the presence of the Lord? Through prayer, Holy Scripture reading, and church attendance as well. By these, in Jesus’ name, you speak to God, hear from God, and experience God dwelling with you. Enter the presence of God!

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” – Matthew 18:20 (NKJV)

It is vital, in the Christian life, to shine the presence of the Lord in our lives.

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: – Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)

For we are commanded to be holy…

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NKJV)

Absorb the holy presence of God through worshiping Him. By doing this, you will become HOLY! Become conformed to the image of His character and not rebellious. Be transformed also by the renewing of your mind.

In conclusion…

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. – 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
– Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)

Hey!   Don’t stop there!   What are you waiting for?
Go to the next step… Pull the curtain. There He is! GOD!
