The Mummy in the Basement

by Theodore Wright.

The Mummy in the BasementWhen I was in the beginning of 7th grade in school I heard three “myths” in the Junior High School I attended, which consequently covered 7th through 9th grades. These myths were 1) to find where classrooms were to “take the elevator to the eighth floor”. 2) We were also told of the “swimming pool on the roof” and about 3) “the mummy in the basement”.

Well, quickly in 7th grade I found there was no eighth floor in the junior high school and the elevator was only a dumbwaiter to carry books between three floors. In 8th grade I saw, when looking out a classroom window on a rainy day, a part of a roof on the top of part of a lower floor looked like a swimming pool. Thus, I found out about this. Another myth.

By the time I reached 9th grade in school, I never saw a mummy in the school that I was told of in the beginning of 7th grade. I had already considered all these stories as myths. That was until I saw my history teacher in the basement when I was on my way to choir practice. I saw him moving a sarcophagus within a storage room there. To my surprise, I found out it was true! There really was a “mummy in the basement”! It wasn’t just the casket, it was occupied by an old skeleton. In class. the teacher opened the casket and we saw the mummy. A classmate even touched the skeleton.

Just because certain stories told sound like myths or are easily confused with such, it doesn’t necessarily mean they must be false just because it sounds like other incredulous tales. The question is, “What evidence is there of validity?”. There are a number of people who still do not believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, simply because they did not do a proper examination of the historical evidence.

Get the facts for yourself and ask, “Did Jesus Christ bodily rise from the dead or did He not?” What you will find is, if you haven’t discovered already, is that Jesus Christ is truly and bodily risen! Is this the your “mummy in the basement” or “skeleton in the closet”?

By this discovery and placing your trusting faith in Jesus for your salvation you receive the free gift of eternal life as well as the forgiveness of all your sins. You will have a prayer line to God in Jesus’ name and can learn to hear God in return. Not only will you be able to hear God in through Holy Bible reading but also personally, hearing from Him. Discovering the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ was the most wonderful experience in My life.

The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7 (NKJV)…
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

Not quite a “swimming pool on the roof”, is it now?

Did you doubt about Jesus? I suppose a lot of us have. Even Jesus’ earthly family did not believe in Him until He was risen from the dead, then they all believed in Him. There is no reason to put this matter off. Place your trusting faith in Jesus now and be saved.
