JUDE
2 PETER
1-3
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Mercy unto you, and peace and love, be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
5
I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
6
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
2:4
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2:5
And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
7
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
2:6-9
And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
8
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
2:10
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
9
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
2:11
Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
10
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
2:12
But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
11
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
2:15-16
Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
12-13
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
2:13-14
 & 2:17
And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
14-15
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
16
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
2:18-22
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
17
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
3:1-2
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
18
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
3:3
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
19
These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
3:4-7
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
20
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
3:8-9
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
3:10-14
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
22-23
And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
3:15-16
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unsTable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
24-25
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.
3:17-18
Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Do you see that faith was working? http://maverickchristians.com/2012/06/04/faith-working/ Mon, 04 Jun 2012 15:58:19 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1417 by Theodore Wright.

James 2:14 (NKJV)
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?

Or in other words “can that faith save him”. That kind of faith, is a dead faith, not a saving faith and hence not real faith.

True faith in Christ saves and produces good works.

James 2:15-17 (NKJV)
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

What makes that kind of faith a dead one is the lack of love.

Real faith is a faith that works by love.

James 2:18-19 (NKJV)
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble!

Real faith demonstrates itself by works of love. Knowledge is not the same as belief.

It is belief in Jesus which saves.

James 2:20-21 (NKJV)
But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

Yet, we also read in Romans 4:2-5 (NKJV)…
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

So how then is someone justified, by faith or by works? Abraham was justified before men by his works but justified before God by his faith. Faith does result in works if it is indeed the true and justifying kind.

The works mentioned in the above passage cannot be in reference to “works of the law” as the law of Moses did not even exist as yet during Abraham’s time.

Therefore, we are not saved by works at all of any kind except by the work of Jesus Christ Himself through the Spirit of God!

Titus 3:5 (NKJV)
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Hebrews 9:14 (NKJV)
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

We cannot be justified by a faith that doesn’t work. But yet, neither can we be justified by faith and works.

Romans 11:6 (NKJV)
And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Once you have attempt to add works to grace you have denied God’s grace that is received by faith.

Then how are we justified? By faith which works!

James 2:22 (NKJV)
Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

Faith did the works through Abraham. We are saved only by faith. However, that faith is a fruitfully productive one which is spurred by love.

James 2:23 (NKJV)
And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.

It was Abraham’s faith belief that He was made righteous by God.

Works demonstated this justifying faith.

James 2:24 (NKJV)
You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

We see that a man is justified only by faith which demonstrates itself by works. Works cannot save, faith plus works cannot save, but faith which works does save.

We see faith in action.

James 2:25 (NKJV)
Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

Hebrews 11:31 (NKJV)
By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.

Faith was working together with the works of Rahab.

We can see now that faith must have love to work.

James 2:26 (NKJV)
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Faith without works is dead being alone without love.

Having faith alone in Jesus Christ for your salvation means that you are believing only in Jesus to save you. It also means you are not placing your faith in anyone or anything else, not even in your own works, for your salvation.

This does not mean that faith salvation is that which is alone lacking love or resulting works. Dead faith doesn’t work but real and true living faith works!

Trusting in a false “faith and works” gospel or “faith plus works” gospel denies the work Jesus did to save you and renounces Him as the only and true Savior.

Galatians 5:6 (NKJV)
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything,
but faith working through love.

Real salvation is found in the true “faith which works” gospel because faith works by love!

FAITH + LOVE = WORKS
FAITH + LOVE = SALVATION
, true gospel
This is a real and productive faith.

FAITH – WORKS ≠ LOVE
FAITH – WORKS ≠ SALVATION
FAITH – WORKS = LICENTIOUSNESS
, false gospel
This is a dead faith.

FAITH – LOVE ≠ WORKS
FAITH – LOVE ≠ SALVATION
FAITH – LOVE = EMPTY RELIGION
, false gospel
This is a superficial faith.

FAITH + WORKS ≠ LOVE
FAITH + WORKS ≠ SALVATION
FAITH + WORKS = LEGALISM
, false gospel
This is a counterfeit faith.

There is no need to add works to faith to be saved because faith is what produces works. Moreover, your works cannot save you.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NKJV)
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Dividing your faith in Jesus Christ with other people, things or works not only distracts you from Jesus, the only and true Savior, but actually prevents you from receiving salvation which comes only through faith alone in Him.

If you could be saved by your own works in addition to God’s grace through faith then you would become your own savior and Jesus would be but merely your co-savior. What blasphemy!

Who else do you believe saves you besides Jesus Christ to insult His name? Do you trust a church denomination, religious leaders or dead people? How many saviors do you put your faith in?

In order for salvation to be received it must be received by faith alone in the only true Savior Jesus Christ. Otherwise it cannot be received at all.

John 14:6 (NKJV)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 (NKJV)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 16:31b (NKJV)
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved,

The sabbath rest is neither Saturday nor Sunday http://maverickchristians.com/2012/06/01/sabbath-rest-not-saturday-nor-sunday/ Fri, 01 Jun 2012 12:18:40 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1367 by Theodore Wright.

For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
– Hebrews 4:8-9

The sabbath day rest for the Christian is not Saturday.
Neither is it Sunday.
It is, in fact, the eternal rest which we have with Christ.

We observe this sabbath, keeping it holy, by placing our full confident faith in Jesus Christ for salvation.

Hebrews chapter 4…

1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way:
“And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

5 and again in this place:
“They shall not enter My rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,

7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.

9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.

10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

To insist that it is a sin before God for anyone to work on Saturday is placing a yoke of bondage on Christ’s disciples. The very insistence of such is sinful disobedience against God’s commandment.

Romans chapter 14 verses 5 thru 6a…

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it.

The New Testament book of Colossians continually warns us not to fall into the error of legalism and not to attempt to justify oneself by things that cannot save.

Colossians chapter 2 verses 16 & 17…

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

The Old Testament laws and holidays serve to teach us faith, the substance of things hoped for, in the hope of the eternal rest we have with Jesus.

Who crucified the Christ? http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/31/who-crucified-christ/ Thu, 31 May 2012 12:59:26 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1355 by Theodore Wright.

Who crucified Jesus Christ?

Who is guilty for the murder of God’s Messiah?

Much has been said in great depth by many, all having various answers to the question.

In answer to this enigmatic mystery and long debate, herein you will read the Bible’s own complete and concise answer to this age old question…

For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anonited, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.
– Acts 4:27-28 (NKJV)

What was God’s purpose for the death of His Son?

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first
Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern
to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.
– 1 Timothy 1:15-16 (NKJV)

Jesus did not just die to take the penalty for your sins
but also to take the penalty for your worst enemy’s sins.

As you believe in Jesus for the forgiveness of all your sins,
you are enabled to forgive and others and forgive yourself.

Does this answer your question well enough?

ACCEPT JESUS, FOREVER FORGIVEN

The old James one-two http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/26/the-old-james-one-two/ Sat, 26 May 2012 14:27:04 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1269 by Theodore Wright.

What should we do when we see a brother in Christ who is down?

KNOCK HIM OUT with the old JAMES ONE-TWO!

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
– James 1:2 (NKJV)

Do we count it “all joy” for just any reason?
No.

knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
– James 1:3 (NKJV)

So what do perservering trials and becoming patient do for us?
Perfects your character.

But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
– James 1:4 (NKJV)

Trials in life that you face as a Christian make you mature, complete in the will of God.

But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
-1 Peter 5:10 (NKJV)

And what happens after we become mature and complete?
You end up putting strong trusting faith in Jesus Christ, looking for the expected hope of the eternal life waiting for us.

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
-1 Peter 1:13 (NKJV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls.

 -1 Peter 1:3-9 (NKJV)

So, if you see a brother in Christ who is down,
KNOCK HIM OUT with the old JAMES ONE-TWO!

In memory of José “Joe” Marcelino of Bethlehem, PA
who would kindly knock me out when I was down.

Coming judgment of God http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/24/coming-judgment-of-god/ Thu, 24 May 2012 15:12:09 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1232 by Theodore Wright.

Don’t Wait!  Tomorrow may be too late!

TODAY! You need the assurance of having the gift of eternal life.
Believe in Jesus Christ and be saved!

John 5:24 (NKJV):  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Hebrews 7:25 (NKJV):  Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.

Romans 10:9 (NKJV):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Scripture taken from the New King James Version. Copyright © 1979, 1980, 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Used by permission. All rights reserved.

Don’t wait for Jesus to be your judge. Accept Him as your Savior right away! Now is the time for you to receive Him.

Acts 17:30-31 (NKJV):  “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Hebrews 10:31 (NKJV):  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

2 Corinthians 6:2b (NKJV):  Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

You may not have till tomorrow. If you neglect Jesus now, you may perish at any time.

James 4:14 (NKJV):  whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Matthew 16:26a (NKJV):  “For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Hebrews 2:3 (NKJV):  how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

Do you wish to try to enjoy merely this life without the joys of everlasting life?

Does delaying your decision to receive Jesus as your Savior make you feel better about what short life you have now before going to Hell?

Wouldn’t you prefer having the confidence of possessing the free gift of eternal life rather than living with the fear of the eternal torment awaiting you?

Your day of death could be today!

PREPARE TO MEET YOUR GOD!

This may be your last opportunity to receive Christ as your Savior.

For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
– Romans 6:23

Incarnate Deity of Jesus Christ: God was manifest in the flesh http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/22/bible-proof-deity-jesus-christ/ Tue, 22 May 2012 14:38:54 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1131

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifest in the flesh,

justified in the Spirit,

seen of angels,

preached unto the Gentiles,

believed on in the world,

received up into glory.

– 1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

The greek letters “theta sigma” (θς) appear in New
Testament manuscripts as an abbreviation for God.

SCRIPTURE QUOTES FROM THE AUTHORIZED VERSION / KING JAMES VERSION BIBLE

The first chapter of Hebrews from the New Testament (KJV):
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands; They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Nehemiah 9:6 (KJV):
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Zechariah 2:10 (KJV):
Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

Zechariah 9:9 (KJV):

2 Timothy 1:7… God has not given us the spirit of fear http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/21/2-timothy-1-7/ Mon, 21 May 2012 13:00:12 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1090 by Theodore Wright.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV):
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

The word for “fear” in the verse above is not referring to general fear as it is commonly known. The word in the original greek language is not ‘phobos’ (φοβος) but rather is ‘deilias’ (δειλιας) which means “cowardice”. God has not given us a spirit of cowardice.  The actual context of the words found in 2 Timothy 1:7 refers to partaking in the difficulties of the work of sharing the good news of the free gift of salvation and not to wimp out.

2 Timothy 1:6-9 (KJV):  Wherefore, I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;  Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV):  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Scriptures are sufficient to supply the message of salvation to us. Salvation is by faith in none other than Jesus Christ.

Further commentary…

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV):  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

It is the Scriptures that are God inspired. As we place our faith in Christ through them then we are completely equipped to perform resulting good works.

2 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV):  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

What word was Timothy to preach? God’s word, the Holy Scriptures, of course. The Scriptures he knew and grew up with was what he was to preach revealing God’s salvation.   To be instant with the gospel, like instant coffee. We’re not to be slowly perking preachers. It is always open season for soul winning. The priority is urgent because God will judge.

2 Timothy 4:3 (KJV):  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

This time has already come when people desire to trust teachers before going to the Scriptures. They should be seeking God through the Scriptures themselves.   It is not teachers and Bible commentators that shed light on God’s word. Rather, it is God’s word, the Holy Scriptures, that sheds the light on the teachings of men whether they be of God or not.   The reason they don’t place their entire trust in the Scriptures is because they only want to believe what they want to please only themselves, uncaring of what God really wants and says.

2 Timothy 4:4 (KJV):  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Faith is not to be placed in fictitious stories and based on man-made traditions which are unproven as being from Christ or from the apostles and prophets.

2 Timothy 4:5 (KJV):  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Keep your eyes fully open to God’s Bible truth and declare God’s Scriptural truth even when it hurts.

Finally, stop making cowardly excuses for not sharing the good news of the scriptures and tell people about the saving faith in Jesus Christ.

The bread of life does not change http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/20/bread-of-life-does-not-change/ Sun, 20 May 2012 19:05:38 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=1024
Jesus said…
Verily, verily I say unto you,
He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I am that bread of life.
– John 6:47-48

A comparitive study of verses from John chapter 6

John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them,
I am the bread of life:

he that cometh to me
shall never hunger
and he that believeth on me
shall never thirst.

John 6:40
And this is the will of him
that sent me,

that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him,
may have everlasting life:
and I will raise him up
at the last day.

John 6:54

whoso eateth my flesh
and drinketh my blood,
hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up
at the last day.

he that  that every one which  whoso
cometh to me  seeth the Son,  eateth my flesh,
and  and  and
believeth on me  believeth on him,  drinketh my blood;
shall never hunger
shall never thirst
may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day  hath eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day

Jesus continued and said…
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

-John 6:49-51

Eat the bread of life not orally but by coming to Jesus.

Drink the blood of Jesus not orally but by believing on Him.

There is no mention anywhere of Holy Communion in the sixth chapter of John.

Saying that Holy Communion is the eating and drinking the actual physical flesh and blood of Christ was a false accusation made against Christians during ancient times.

For when the Greeks, having arrested the slaves of Christian catechumens, then used force against them, in order to learn from them some secret thing practiced among Christians, these slaves, having nothing to say that would meet the wishes of their tormentors, except that they had heard from their masters that the divine communion was the body and blood of Christ, and imagining that it was actually flesh and blood, gave their inquisitors answer to that effect. That these latter, assuming such to be the case with regard to the practices of Christians, gave information regarding it to other Greeks, and sought to compel the martyrs Sanctus and Blandina to confess, under the influence of torture, that the allegation was correct. To these men Blandina replied very admirably in these words: “How should those person endure such accusations, who, for the sake of the practice of piety, did not avail themselves even of the flesh that was permitted them to eat?”
– Fragments from the Lost Writings of Irenaeus XIII.

Now those oblations are not according to the law, the handwriting which the Lord took away from the midst by canceling it; but they are according to the Spirit, for we must worship God “in spirit and in truth.” And therefore the oblation of the Eucharist is not a carnal one, but a spiritual; and in this respect it is pure. For we make an oblation to God of the bread and the cup of blessing, giving Him thanks in that He has commanded the earth to bring for these fruits for our nourishment. And then, we when we have perfected the oblation, we invoke the Holy Spirit, that He may exhibit this sacrifice, both the bread the body of Christ, and the cup the blood of Christ, in order that the receivers of these antitypes may obtain remission of sins and life eternal.
– Fragments from the Lost Writings of Irenaeus XXXVII.

We obtain remission of sins and eternal life by receiving the antitypes, the actual body and blood of Christ.

These are revealed by the bread and cup which are the types of these.

Receive the body and blood of Jesus by coming to Him, believing on Him.

Repentance: The Living Faith to Justification http://maverickchristians.com/2012/05/18/repentance-living-faith-justification/ Fri, 18 May 2012 13:03:41 +0000 http://old.maverickchristians.com/?p=943 by Theodore Wright.

I will show you my faith by my works. – James 2:18c (NKJV)

Partaking of the gospel to salvation is not merely an internal experience. It is an outward demonstration of saving faith. This turnabout to belief in God’s Son Jesus, resulting in obedient conduct to the law of God, is called “repentance”.

Mark 1:15c (NKJV):  “Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Acts 2:38 (NKJV):  Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 8:22 (NKJV):  “Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.”

Acts 16:31 (NKJV):  So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Acts 26:20b (NKJV):  “that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.”

Romans 10:9 (NKJV):  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:13 (NKJV):  For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

The commandments of God are understood contextually, not cumulatively. Water baptism, prayer, evangelizing, doing works, confessing Christ, even calling on His name are all done as the result of receiving Christ by faith. These are not means, prerequisites, nor requirements for salvation. Acts demonstrating saving belief do not of themselves save us and neither do they save us in addition to our faith.

Romans 4:5 (NKJV):  But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

We are not saved by any work other than the completed work of Jesus Christ and His continual intercession on our behalf.

Hebrews 10:10 (NKJV):  By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Hebrews 7:25 (NKJV):  Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Also, in the same, neither are we saved by an unproductive dead faith in Him as that would be false, licentious and counterfeit belief.

James 2:17 (NKJV):  Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

The inward work of the Holy Spirit results in the good outward conduct of the Christian.

Philippians 2:12c-13 (NKJV):  work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

As salvation is within you, you let your salvation work out to show openly through your living faith in Jesus Christ. Your trust in God through His Son Jesus will continue to grow to new areas of your life.

True saving faith, by its own Spiritual nature, demonstrates itself.

Galatians 5:6 (NKJV):  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

Thus, faith repentance is the requirement for salvation. Works of repentance are the result of such faith.

Acts 10:43 NKJV:  “To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

Acts 3:19 (NKJV):  “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,”

Matthew 3:8 (NKJV):  “Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,”
