The Lord’s Harvest: be prepared

by Theodore Wright.

When doing a large outreach in a city, there are preparations to be made. The Lord has given instructions about this.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
– John 4:35 (KJV)

Don’t say four months and then comes harvest! Don’t wait for the time men set for the next big team ministry outreach. Share the gospel now!

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
– 2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)

To continue,

And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. – John 4:36 (KJV)

And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
– Luke 10:7 (KJV)

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
– John 9:37-38 (KJV)

Those who share the gospel are worthy of support. If you are praying for more laborers to come into the Lord’s harvest, be sure you are prepared to support them. There will be those who God sends who will show up early for the harvest. Be ready for them, they are not too early.  God sent them with His timing.

It may be surprising how those who are aware of these Bible verses will not be ready for the laborers God will send seemingly impromptu. This is a test for those who are praying for the Lord’s harvest as to their commitment of faith.  There will be those laborers who will be counted on to come for the harvest.  Yet, there will be those who God will send without specific prior knowledge to those who are praying for more laborers.  Do not pray for more laborers to come into the Lord’s harvest if you will not prepare for them.

And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
– John 4:37-38 (KJV)

Some wonder why some who they have shared the gospel with for so long did not get saved then but when some other Christian comes, who does the work of an evangelist, and shares the gospel but once with that person, that person immediately gets saved. The hard work is the planting of the gospel in someone’s heart. The soul reaped to salvation, after all the planting has already been done, is the easy work. There is a time to sow and a time to reap but God is the one who sets the order as He chooses.
